Health Equity Symposium

On September 10, 2015, the Toronto Central LHIN hosted a Health Equity Symposium.

With 150 individuals attending the event, a broad cross section of organizations and sectors were represented, including hospitals, community health service providers, primary care, long-term care, and public health. Also present were partners from outside of health care including those in housing, education and social services. Other LHINs, the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Health Quality Ontario and provincial and national organizations and patient and consumers groups also provided their input in the LHIN's Health Equity Roadmap development.

During our symposium, all attendees were invited to offer us advice about how we could encourage and support individuals and organizations in shared efforts to advance health equity in Toronto.

Following the event, the Toronto Central LHIN Health Equity Team prepared a highlights summary of what was heard during the sessions. A total of 18 recommendations were organized into the three pillars: Leadership and Culture Change, Data and Analytics, and Local Innovations.

The feedback provided will help shape Toronto Central LHIN’s health equity activities over the next three years, which will be documented in a new Toronto Central LHIN Health Equity Roadmap.
