On Tuesday May 16, 2017, Toronto Central LHIN hosted a meeting on opioid use and overdoses in Toronto at St. Paul’s Church at St. Paul’s Church at 227 Bloor Street East near Church. This meeting was attended by over 60 people and included health and community service providers, community members, representatives from the Toronto Central LHIN Citizen’s Panel and the Toronto Indigenous Health Advisory Circle, and people with lived experience of substance use and overdose, as well as representatives from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, the Toronto Drug Strategy, Toronto Public Health and the Toronto Central LHIN.

The meeting included:

  • A presentation on the Ontario Opioid Strategy by Patrick Dicerni from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care
  • A presentation on the Toronto Overdose Action Plan by Jayne Caldwell from the Toronto Drug Strategy
  • A discussion where meeting participants provided feedback on the plans and input on how the Toronto Central LHIN can support these plans and respond to the issues of opioid use and overdoses
